Temporary Closure of Portions of West Lawn Cemetery @ Gering
Aug 25 all-day

West Lawn Cemetery in Gering encountered significant storm damage to trees Tuesday evening.  All portions of the cemetery west of the main road will be closed until further notice. Roads have been barricaded  in sections that have not been cleared.  The public is asked to please stay out of barricaded areas for their safety and to allow staff time to assess trees in the west section for additional damage.   As sections are cleared barricades will be removed and portions of the west half will be reopened.  The public is asked to be patient as it may take some time to complete the clean-up process.

Let Independence Rising give your extra, gently used durable medical equipment a home.

Your donation allows Independence Rising to rent durable medical equipment to individuals who have a disability or are recovering from illness or surgery. This assistive equipment provides essential support necessary for individuals to live independently in the community. Equipment rents for $10/per item for 4 months.

They are currently in need of manual wheelchairs; slide boards & tub/shower transfer benches.

Knights of Columbus Bingo @ KC Hall

The Knights of Columbus would like to remind everyone that Monday night is Bingo night.  Doors open at 5:00 pm, and the games start at 7:00 pm.  Burgers, hotdogs, and other snacks are available for purchase.  All proceeds also go to help fund local charities.

Auditions for musical at WNCC @ Performing Arts Center - WNCC

WNCC Music and Theater is proud to announce auditions for the Musical-Comedy production of A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM.

Auditions take place on Monday, August 26 in the WNCC Judy Chaloupka Theater at 6:30 p.m. Sign-up begins at 6 p.m. Please prepare a verse and chorus of a character-driven up tempo song. An accompanist will be provided. Please have sheet music prepared. Call backs will be announced at the auditions.

Callbacks are Tuesday, August 27, in the theater beginning at 6:30. Materials for callbacks will be provided.

This Musical Theater production will be the first Musical produced by WNCC in many years. It celebrates the opening of the new theater and the establishment of the new Associate of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre at WNCC. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on November 1 and 2, and at 2 p.m. on November 3.

Mosquito Spraying @ Gering and Terrytown

The City of Gering will begin spraying for mosquitoes on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.  Spraying will continue every Tuesday and Thursday evening; weather permitting, for the remainder of the mosquito season.

The City of Terrytown has contracted with the City of Gering for mosquito spraying on Tuesdays in residential areas, in the parks and along trails.

Come explore the night sky and the secrets it holds at this event
Scotts Bluff National Monument and sponsored by the Gering Visitors Bureau.

To kick-off the evening; a short movie will be shown about constellations and their mythology. Tom Robinson, WNCC Professor of Science & Math, will then lead an informal talk on what night sky features will be visible throughout numerous telescopes. Following the program, the telescopes will be open for viewing.

The public is encouraged to bring flashlights or headlamps, binoculars for personal stargazing, and blankets if desired.

Free glow sticks will be offered to the first 100 attendees and the Big Red Nebraska Popcorn Company will be on-site
for galactic treats and cosmic drink creations for purchase.

Five Rocks Amphitheater policies prohibits alcoholic beverages and coolers.

Event is “weather permitting”

Admission is FREE OF CHARGE.

Exhibit: “100 Years of Scotts Bluff National Monument” @ Legacy of the Plains Museum

Scotts Bluff National Monument’s Centennial Exhibit will be on display at the Legacy of the Plains Museum this summer.

The exhibit titled “100 Years of Scotts Bluff National Monument” will be open to the public starting Thursday, May 9th, through September.

Showcasing the vast history and culture at Scotts Bluff National Monument, the exhibit will feature an original soap box derby car, an adobe brick made by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930’s, historical photographs, interpretive displays and the William Henry Jackson prints originally housed in the Visitor Center, which is undergoing a major renovation and expansion project.

The centennial exhibit will be free and open to the public.  Regular museum admission is required for the main gallery.

Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Mo. Co. Cattlemen Meeting and BQA Trainings @ Prairie Winds Community Center- Bridgeport

The Morrill County Affiliate of the Nebraska Cattlemen will be hosting BQA Trainings and a meeting Thursday, August 29, at the
Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport.

Transportation BQA Training will begin at 2:00 and run
approximately 2 hours. This training is free.

Producer BQA Training will begin at 4:00 and also run approximately 2 hours. There is a $20 fee to Nebraska Extension for Producer BQA Training. BQA Trainings are open to the public and no RSVP is required.

A 6:00 Social with a meal and presentation to follow is open to Nebraska Cattlemen members and guests.  Clay Mead from Allflex will talk about “Animal ID; New Technology and New Requirements.”

The cost of the meal will be $10. The meeting is sponsored by Allflex and Torrington Livestock Markets.

Fortis Boy Choir fall auditions @ Scottsbluff

The Fortis Boy Choir will be having their fall auditions on August 29th. They will be held at the St Francis Episcopal Church, 14 E 20th St, Scottsbluff, NE. at 5 pm – 6 pm. Fortis will also have their first rehearsal that same night from 6 pm – 7 pm. Boys ages 8+ are invited to audition for the choir and attend the first rehearsal.
