His Little Feet International Children’s Choir

His Little Feet International Children’s Choir is presenting a concert at First Baptist Church of Scottsbluff on Wednesday, May 1, at 7:00pm. The event is free and open to the public.

The choir children, ages 7 to 13, are orphaned and rescued from India, Kenya, Rwanda and Haiti. While the children are a part of the choir, they participate in His Little Feet’s nationwide “ALL THINGS POSSIBLE” International Children’s Choir Tour. They bring attention to the plight of millions of orphaned and vulnerable children living in the world today and offer opportunities for people to respond and make a difference.

At each choir presentation, guests are asked to consider how they can personally reach children in need in practical ways.

National Day of Prayer @ Gering

The City of Gering, along with the Cities of Scottsbluff, Terrytown, Mitchell and Scotts Bluff County will host a news conference on May 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at City Hall in Gering during which the Mayors and Board Chairman will sign a Proclamation proclaiming May 2, 2019 as a Day of Prayer for our communities and our nation. This event will take place in conjunction with National Day of Prayer activities occurring all over the United States.

The media and public are invited to attend the May 2, 2019 news conference at 11:00 a.m. at Gering City Hall, 1025 P Street, Gering, NE during which the proclamation will be read and signed and local chief elected officials will lead a prayer for our communities and the country.

Continuing the Tradition- A Celebration of Native American Art @ West Nebraska Arts Center

The West Nebraska Arts Center, with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, is pleased to present Continuing the Tradition- A Celebration of Native American Art by Native American artists of South Dakota and Nebraska. It will be presented Thursday, May 2nd.

Featured art includes ledger art, handcrafted jewelry, bead work on authentic leather, pastels and more.

The reception is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Hors’ oeuvres and refreshments will be served. The gallery exhibit is free and open to the public and will be on display May 2- 26th 2019.

West Nebraska Arts Center is honored to present Don Montileaux with a presentation on Thursday May 9, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Come learn about Don Montileaux’s journey and art. Participants will have the opportunity to create and color a cut-out form of a horse during the presentation.

Science on Screen film-and-discussion on Volcanic Ash @ Historic Midwest Theater

The final event in the 2018-2019 Science on Screen film-and-discussion series at the Midwest Theater will take place the first week of May, with a special co-hosted pair of events to celebrate Scotts Bluff National Monument’s Centennial.

On Thurs., May 2, at 7:30 p.m., the Midwest Theater will present “Volcanic Ash in Western Nebraska: Past . . . and Future?” featuring two geologists and a disaster movie.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Emeritus Professor of Geology James Swinehart and University of Northern Colorado Associate Professor of Geology Emmett Evanoff will talk about local geology, including the volcanic ash layers at Scotts Bluff National Monument. The geologists will then provide commentary about geological science during a screening of the 1997 disaster film “Dante’s Peak,” in the style of the television show “Mystery Science Theater 3000.”

Prior to the event, educational booths will be set up in the lobby for visitors to learn about geology, fossils, and preparing for natural disasters.

This event is open to the public, and admission is FREE

Graduate and undergraduate degrees for 631 will be conferred at University of Nebraska at Kearney commencement exercises at 10 a.m.  (CT) Friday (May 3).

Kearney-based filmmaker Jon Bokenkamp, executive producer and creator of the hit television series “The Blacklist,” will receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts and deliver the commencement address. Bokenkamp attended UNK in 1991-93 before transferring to University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, from which he graduated in 1995. A graduate of Kearney High School, he started his career in filmmaking with documentaries on drive-in movies.
