32nd annual Tour de Nebraska Bicycle Tour

A total of 467 cyclists on the 32ndAnnual Tour de Nebraska bicycle adventure will roll out of Sidney on Wednesday, June 19th and travel five days to Kimball, Gering, Scottsbluff, Bridgeport and back to Sidney.

With this number of cyclists on this year’s Tour de Nebraska annual bicycle adventure, it’s even more critical for motorists and cyclists to use extra caution on the road.

Donate used durable medical equipment

Donate “no longer needed” gently used durable medical equipment to people in need.  Independence Rising is an organization that loans durable medical equipment to individuals with a disability or are recovering from an illness or surgery.

Examples are wheelchairs, walkers, canes, seated walkers, bath benches and chairs, toilet risers and commodes.

Independence Rising is an Independent Living Center located at  Northfield,  2350 Five Rocks Road in Gering.

Equipment rents for $10/per item for 4 months, if after 4 months the equipment is still needed it will be an additional $10/per item for another 4 months.

Representative Smith Mobile Office Hours @ Alliance

Constituents of Third District Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) are invited to meet with a representative of his office at mobile offices throughout the month of June including in Alliance.

At mobile offices, Third District residents can meet with one of Smith’s staff members who can assist with federal agencies, like FEMA or the USDA, relay concerns about federal issues, or assist in taking advantage of the services available through his office.

Mosquito Spraying @ Gering and Terrytown

The City of Gering will begin spraying for mosquitoes on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.  Spraying will continue every Tuesday and Thursday evening; weather permitting, for the remainder of the mosquito season.

The City of Terrytown has contracted with the City of Gering for mosquito spraying on Tuesdays in residential areas, in the parks and along trails.

Nebraska Farm Bureau Listening Session @ Alliance

The Nebraska Farm Bureau will hold a series of regional listening sessions across the state. The sessions are open to the public and will provide farmers and ranchers with the opportunity to share their thoughts on issues impacting their operations.

CRAKE Training=Citizen Response to Active Killing Event

This is a training program developed by the Nebraska State Patrol to get companies, churches, organizations to start thinking about a plan if they are ever faced with an active shooter situation.

The training is free and open to the public.   The training would be especially helpful to organizations who do not already have a plan in place.

The Alliance Berean Church is at 1639 Emerson in Alliance.

Exhibit: “100 Years of Scotts Bluff National Monument” @ Legacy of the Plains Museum

Scotts Bluff National Monument’s Centennial Exhibit will be on display at the Legacy of the Plains Museum this summer.

The exhibit titled “100 Years of Scotts Bluff National Monument” will be open to the public starting Thursday, May 9th, through September.

Showcasing the vast history and culture at Scotts Bluff National Monument, the exhibit will feature an original soap box derby car, an adobe brick made by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930’s, historical photographs, interpretive displays and the William Henry Jackson prints originally housed in the Visitor Center, which is undergoing a major renovation and expansion project.

The centennial exhibit will be free and open to the public.  Regular museum admission is required for the main gallery.

Legacy of the Plains Museum is open Monday through
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Brief City Department Closure

The City of Gering Utility and Administrative offices, Gering Public Library, Police Reception Desk, Landfill office/scale and all City Departments will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 27, 2019 for an Employee Appreciation Event and to recognize City employees for years of service.

Rural Radio Forum: Rural Infrastructure @ A radio near you

The next Rural Radio Forum will focus on “Rural Infrastructure”. This special radio program will air on KNEB 960AM/100.3 FM, and the  Rural Radio Network Tuesday, August 6thth at 2:00 pm MDT.

The Rural Radio Network will devote one hour to concentrate on “Rural Infrastructure”. We are lining up experts to talk about roads and bridges and where they stand after the devastating March flooding in Nebraska. We will also talk the need for Internet access in rural Nebraska.
