Monument Valley Iris Show

The Monument Valley Iris Society will host their annual Iris Show and Sale at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center.

The show will open to the public on Sunday from 11am to 4pm.  There is no charge to attend.  

Attendees can purchase iris which will be available for transplanting to your garden later this summer.

Documentary film “Afghan Cycles” @ Historic Midwest Theater

The Midwest Theater is hosting a screening of the documentary film “Afghan Cycles” on Sun., June 2 at 1:30 p.m. Admission is FREE, thanks to the support of a generous donor.

Much of the filming for “Afghan Cycles” took place in the Bamiyan region of Afghanistan, an area of the world that Scottsbluff/Gering formed a Sister City partnership with in May 2003.

Anyone who rides a bicycle to the screening will receive a free small bag of popcorn. A bike corral watched over by volunteers from the Western Nebraska Bicycling Club will be available during the movie.

Let Independence Rising give your extra, gently used durable medical equipment a home.

Your donation allows Independence Rising to rent durable medical equipment to individuals who have a disability or are recovering from illness or surgery. This assistive equipment provides essential support necessary for individuals to live independently in the community. Equipment rents for $10/per item for 4 months.

They are currently in need of manual wheelchairs; slide boards & tub/shower transfer benches.

Nebraska Rural Response Hotline Grants @ Statewide

$500 grants are still available from the Nebraska Rural Response Hotline. The grants are funded by Farm Aid, Nebraska Farmer’s Union Foundation, and other donors.

If you or someone you know got hurt by flooding or blizzards and could use a little help, call the Nebraska Rural Response Hotline. Their experienced and professional staff will help callers find the kind of assistance they need.

The $500 grants are simple to apply for. The application can be filled out over the phone, and the assistance is provided in confidence.
