Exhibit: “100 Years of Scotts Bluff National Monument” @ Legacy of the Plains Museum

Scotts Bluff National Monument’s Centennial Exhibit will be on display at the Legacy of the Plains Museum this summer.

The exhibit titled “100 Years of Scotts Bluff National Monument” will be open to the public starting Thursday, May 9th, through September.

Showcasing the vast history and culture at Scotts Bluff National Monument, the exhibit will feature an original soap box derby car, an adobe brick made by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930’s, historical photographs, interpretive displays and the William Henry Jackson prints originally housed in the Visitor Center, which is undergoing a major renovation and expansion project.

The centennial exhibit will be free and open to the public.  Regular museum admission is required for the main gallery.

Legacy of the Plains Museum is open Monday through
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

New Student Registration Sessions @ Eastern Wyoming College - Torrington

Eastern Wyoming College has announced that four new student registration events will be held at the main campus in Torrington on May 24, June 10, July 19 and August 5. Students will sign up for a 30-minute session to meet with their advisor to register for the Fall 2019 semester.

Students will have the opportunity to begin with ACCUPLACER placement exams, if needed. This placement exam is used to ensure placement into the appropriate English, reading and math courses. There is a fee of $20 for these computer-based exams. Students should bring a calculator for the mathematics portion of the test.

Financial Aid staff will be available to assist students with the financial aid process and preparing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students are encouraged to sign up early for the new student registration sessions. To sign up, call Michelle at 307.532.8230 or visit the EWC website at ewc.wy.edu to sign up online.

The Scottsbluff Police Department and the City of Scottsbluff will conduct a Child Car Seat Check-Up, Saturday,  at the Scottsbluff Public Safety Building, 1801 Avenue B, from 9:00am to 12 Noon.

Enter the parking lot off of West 19th Street.  In case of bad weather, the check-up will be moved indoors.

No appointment is needed, allow 20 to 30 minutes per seat.  It is free of charge.

Summer Hours: Hudson-Meng Education and Research Center delayed
May 25 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Due to winter weather conditions last week, the Hudson-Meng Education and Research Center (HMERC) will delay opening for the 2019 season until Wednesday, May 29th.   Hours of visitor center operation are 9 am to 5 pm, Wednesdays through Sundays.

The parking lot, trails, and restrooms will be available seven days a week. Exceptions to the Monday visitor center is Labor Day (September 2).

Guided tour fees of the Hudson-Meng Bison Bone Bed are $5 for adult; $4.50 for seniors; $3 for children from ages
of 5-12; age 4 and under is free. Tours are available when the HMERC visitor center is open.

Fees are used to defray the cost of operating the site and to provide additional educational and interpretive materials such as Junior
Archeologist booklet and interpretive signage.

Veterans State Cemetery Foundation golf tournament @ Alliance

The Veterans State Cemetery at Alliance Foundation will host the first golf tournament of the season.  The event will begin at noon on Saturday May 25, 2019 at the Sky View Golf Course in Alliance.

This will be a four person scramble with both men’s and women’s flights.  The VSCAF Memorial tournament is held each year the Saturday before Memorial Day and is the primary benefit for the Veterans Cemetery Foundation.

The entry fee is $75.00 per person which includes golf, steak dinner, flight prizes, door prizes, a putting contest and hole prizes.

You do not need to be a Veteran to participate.  You can sign up at Sky View Golf Course either in person or by calling 308-762-1446.
