Union Pacific’s historic steam locomotives – Big Boy No. 4014 and the Living Legend No. 844 – are touring the Union Pacific system throughout 2019 to commemorate the transcontinental railroad’s 150th anniversary.
Big Boy No. 4014 will leave Cheyenne with the Living Legend No. 844 May 4 following a 9:30 a.m. MT christening ceremony at the historic Cheyenne Depot and arrive in Ogden for the May 9 celebratory event. The event will be streamed live at 10:30 a.m. MT via the Union Pacific Facebook page.
The Big Boy and Living Legend will make several brief stops in communities on their way to Ogden.
The Big Boy’s return to the rails is the product of more than two years of meticulous restoration work by the Union Pacific Steam Team. No. 4014 is the world’s only operating Big Boy locomotive.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Wyoming Highway Patrol urge motorists to be extra vigilant when traveling during the upcoming Union Pacific (UP) railroad events.
Motorists are not allowed to stop or park on the side of I-80 or along the overpasses or bridges. Violators, who decide to stop along the interstate, can be fined up to $235.00.
Spectators can visit https://www.up.com/heritage/steam/schedule/index.htm for more information on tour schedule and stops.
Due to the dynamic nature of these operations, running times and scheduled stops are subject to change.
Join the Union Pacific Steam Club to be notified of major schedule updates. Small schedule changes will be communicated immediately via the UP Steam Club Facebook Group and the @UP_Steam Twitter feed located at twitter.com/up_steam.
A fundraising garage sale will be held Saturday May 4th from 6am to 3pm for the Twin Cities Childhood Center. Proceeds will help fund purchase of a building.

Eighty graduate candidates and 242 undergraduate candidates will be recognized during two Chadron State College commencement ceremonies Saturday. CSC Live will broadcast both events.
Graduate Commencement will be at 8 a.m. in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium. The speaker will be Dr. Robert Knight, a professor retiring from the Justice Studies, Social Sciences, English Department after 11 years.
Undergraduate Commencement will be at 10 a.m. in the Chicoine Center. Attorney Trevor Schmidt, a Chadron native and 2016 Distinguished Young Alumni Award recipient, will be the speaker.
Both events will be broadcast on CSC Live.
Spring commencements at the University of Nebraska will feature two undergraduate events — one in the morning, the other in the afternoon — with specific college assignments for each. The split ceremony will help the university better accommodate growth in degrees awarded and reduce the amount of time graduates, families and visitors have to spend in the arena.
The morning commencement begins at 9 a.m. ((8am MT)) (doors open at 7:30 a.m.) and will include the colleges of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources; Architecture; Business; Fine and Performing Arts; Journalism and Mass Communications; and Public Affairs and Community Service. The afternoon ceremony begins at 3 p.m. ((2pm MT)) (doors open at 1:30 p.m.) and includes the colleges of Arts and Sciences; Education and Human Sciences; and Engineering.
The other spring 2019 graduation ceremonies are 3 p.m. May 3 at Pinnacle Bank Arena for graduate students, and 2 p.m. May 4 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts for law graduates.
