The Scotts Bluff County Volunteer Center has been serving the area for over 30 years, one of their programs is The Meals on Wheels Program.
The Meals on Wheels program runs Monday through Friday and delivers over 100 meals a day, over 25,000 meals a year.
The Meals on Wheels program is in need of volunteer drivers.
If you can volunteer once a week or even once a month, as an individual or business, call Scotts Bluff County Volunteer Center Executive Director, Shanna Halstead, at 632 – 37-36.
Out of the Darkness community walks are coming up in Alliance, Scottsbluff, and Sidney with the primary goal to raise awareness of the devastating effects of suicide and to raise funds for local and national suicide prevention and awareness programs.
We invite community members to attend in any of the following locations:
Alliance – Saturday, September 14, walk begins at 8 am, registration from 7:30-8 am at the Performing Arts Center-Commons Area, 1450 Box Butte Avenue.
Scottsbluff – Saturday, September 14, walk begins at 4:30 pm, registration from 4 pm at the Trails West Pathway-YMCA Campground Pavillion.
Sidney – Sunday, September 15, walk begins at 5 pm, registration from 4-5 pm at the Legion Park Shelter House.

The Gering Fire Department will again lead fire training exercises on public land in the Panhandle for the annual West Nebraska Engine Academy. This year, the training exercises will be at Cedar Canyon Wildlife Management Area in the Wildcat Hills on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15.
Hunters should be aware that burning will be occurring at various locations on the property and should consider the event if they plan to pursue game there that weekend.
About 30 fire departments, along with state and federal agencies, are expected to be represented at the event.

Donate “no longer needed” gently used durable medical equipment to people in need. Independence Rising is an organization that loans durable medical equipment to individuals with a disability or are recovering from an illness or surgery.
Examples are wheelchairs, walkers, canes, seated walkers, bath benches and chairs, toilet risers and commodes.
Independence Rising is an Independent Living Center located at Northfield, 2350 Five Rocks Road in Gering.
Equipment rents for $10/per item for 4 months, if after 4 months the equipment is still needed it will be an additional $10/per item for another 4 months.

The City of Gering would like to inform citizens that the traffic light at 10th Street and Country Club Road will not be operating beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 through approximately September 18.
The City will be updating street lights and making pavement repairs.
Traffic controls will be in place – there will be a two-way stop. East and west bound traffic will be required to stop. North and south bound traffic will not be required to stop.
The City respectfully requests that drivers and pedestrians use caution when travelling in this area.

Panhandle Project Connect is a one-day, one-stop event that brings our community together to provide services and connect resources to people in the Panhandle who are experiencing homelessness, near homelessness or needing assistance with basic needs.
The event will be held Tuesday, September 17th at the Guadalupe Center (1200 E. 9th St, SB) from 2:00pm to 6:00 pm.
The event is a multi-agency event in collaboration with the Panhandle Continuum of Care for Housing and Homelessness as an opportunity to provide a variety of free services that will include health screenings, haircuts and information on sexual & domestic violence services, housing, employment, food, legal aid, disability assistance, veteran’s services, adult education and more to help assist those in need.
Transportation to the event will be available for those needing that service from the following companies:
