Exhibit: “100 Years of Scotts Bluff National Monument” @ Legacy of the Plains Museum

Scotts Bluff National Monument’s Centennial Exhibit will be on display at the Legacy of the Plains Museum this summer.

The exhibit titled “100 Years of Scotts Bluff National Monument” will be open to the public starting Thursday, May 9th, through September.

Showcasing the vast history and culture at Scotts Bluff National Monument, the exhibit will feature an original soap box derby car, an adobe brick made by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930’s, historical photographs, interpretive displays and the William Henry Jackson prints originally housed in the Visitor Center, which is undergoing a major renovation and expansion project.

The centennial exhibit will be free and open to the public.  Regular museum admission is required for the main gallery.

Legacy of the Plains Museum is open Monday through
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Mosquito Spraying @ Gering and Terrytown

The City of Gering will begin spraying for mosquitoes on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.  Spraying will continue every Tuesday and Thursday evening; weather permitting, for the remainder of the mosquito season.

The City of Terrytown has contracted with the City of Gering for mosquito spraying on Tuesdays in residential areas, in the parks and along trails.

PREC Annual field day @ Panhandle Research and Extension Center

The UNL Panhandle Research and Extension Center will host the annual Panhandle Ag Research and Technology Tour – PARTT. This annual field day will feature new equipment and technology in irrigated crops such as dry beans, sugarbeets, and corn. Field tours will show off current research in soil and nutrition management, ag economics, irrigation, plant pathology, weed management, plant breeding, and entomology.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., the morning keynote will be provided by Richard Bischoff, associate vice chancellor for faculty and academic leader success of UNL’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Plot tours begin at 9:30 a.m. and last until lunch. Four trailers will take visitors on the plot tours, each visiting the plots in a different order. Each stop will last about 25 minutes.

A free lunch will be served at noon, with a keynote address by Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen. After lunch the tour moves inside to the auditorium for several presentations until 2 p.m. will include these topics and speakers:

Innovative Solutions for Water Management in Western Nebraska (John Berge, General Manager, North Platte Natural Resources District)

2018 Farm Bill (Jessica Groskopf, Ag Economist, Nebraska Extension)

Question-Answer Panel on the canal break on the Gering-Fort Laramie Canal

A pair of technology demonstrations will be offered at 2 p.m., the first on robotics and the second on a weed sprayer.

In addition to the tour, vendors will showcase new equipment and ag technologies.

Mosquito Spraying @ Scottsbluff

The City of Scottsbluff Public Works Department mosquito spraying program will be on Fridays, weather permitting, from 3:00 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. If it is raining or the wind is above 10 MPH, we will not be spraying.

This schedule will be throughout the summer to let the public know

Donate used durable medical equipment

Donate “no longer needed” gently used durable medical equipment to people in need.  Independence Rising is an organization that loans durable medical equipment to individuals with a disability or are recovering from an illness or surgery.

Examples are wheelchairs, walkers, canes, seated walkers, bath benches and chairs, toilet risers and commodes.

Independence Rising is an Independent Living Center located at  Northfield,  2350 Five Rocks Road in Gering.

Equipment rents for $10/per item for 4 months, if after 4 months the equipment is still needed it will be an additional $10/per item for another 4 months.
